Gadwal Kupadam, ivory & maroon
Kupadam marries a fine cotton body to a silk border and pallu by interlocking the two warps at the join, so the seam is structural rather than stitched. This one carries a narrow zari line inside the maroon, which is the older Gadwal proportion.
- Colour — Ivory, Maroon, Gold
- Technique — Kupadam interlock, woven at Jogulamba Gadwal over 26 days on the loom.
- Fabric — Cotton and silk
- Speciality — The kupadam interlock is worked at the join by hand, so border and body cannot be pulled apart.
- The Suka promise — Handloom, never powerloom. A named cluster, a counted number of hands, and a making record you can read.
- Note — Comes with an unstitched blouse piece. Where a model is photographed, the blouse shown is styled separately.
Because it is handwoven, small irregularities in the weave and slight variation in colour are inherent to the cloth. They are the evidence of a hand, not a fault in it.
